From what age do you start paying?

Accompanied children travel for free without a ticket up to the age of 6. Unaccompanied children and young people aged 6 to 15 pay the reduced fare.

What is the Junior travelcard?

With the Junior travelcarschildren and young people aged 6 to 15 travel for free when accompanied by at least one parent with a valid ticket.

What is the Grandkids travelcard?

With the Grandchild travelcard children and young people aged 6 to 15 travel for free when accompanied by a grandparent with a valid ticket.

I am retired. Am I entitled to any reductions?

At present the CTA does not offer any special reductions for people in retirement age.

I receive a disability pension. Am I entitled to any reductions?

At present the CTA does not offer any special reductions to the recipients of disability pensions.

I am 24. Am I entitled to the “youth” fare?

Yes. The youth fare is valid right up until the day before your 25th birthday.

Do soldiers travel for free?

Soldiers travel for free on all CTA routes when they carry their marching orders and are in uniform or have proof of their authorisation to travel in civilian clothing. Members of the Swiss army in uniform or with a corresponding authorisation receive: single tickets within the network, 1-day travelcards and multi-journey travelcards, all at the reduced-fare. Army dogs are transported free of charge under the condition that they are registered on the marching orders.

Are there any discounts for passengers with disabilities?

Only passengers that hold a “disabled passenger ID card” are considered to be disabled:

  • Passengers with disabilities must always be accompanied and are therefore authorised to travel with a travel companion and/or guide dog for the blind
  • The disabled passenger or travel companion must have a valid ticket
  • Disabled passengers and their travel companions travel for free on the urban lines in zones 100, 150, 200 and 300 with the ID card for blind and visually-impaired passengers

How much do dogs and small animals pay?

In principle you must pay the reduced 2nd class fare for your dog. Small dogs up to 30cm high at their shoulder blades, cats and small domestic pets are transported free of charge as hand luggage provided they are in a carrier, basket or other suitable container.

Do I have to pay for the transportation of my luggage?

Una sedia a rotelle per diversamente abili è trasportata gratuitamente se la persona che la utilizza se ne serve per viaggiare. Per quanto concerne il trasporto di bagaglio accompagnato, di carrozzelle per bambini, di biciclette e di sedie a rotelle a cura del personale viaggiante, si applicano le disposizioni della corrispondente impresa di trasporto.
